Just a simple one today. Again, thanks to the wonders of my laptop and a random ‘like’ of a comment I made elsewhere, I came across these two shorts videos about something very close to my heart. I recall seeing one before, but the other is new to me.
The challenge is simply this. If you can find any kind of reasonable argument to make against either one, do me a favour and let me know, please. It seems to me it’s all about perspective and perceptions, neither of which are assisted positively in any way by a generally aggressive media in the UK and elsewhere. The bit about not being seen as a ‘bus-ist’ or a ‘train-ist’ is especially pertinent. I’d add ‘horse-ist’ to that.
Six minutes and seven minutes, respectively. If they don’t make you think, then I suggest you take a long hard look in the mirror.
Oh, and if you still thinks it’s daft, don’t forget to send me pictures of yourself wearing a helmet in your cars, kitchens, bathrooms, in the supermarket, on the street. Well, pretty much anywhere you might sustain a head injury. Thanks, awfully.
Seriously, what is the issue? I’m all ears.
Good arguments, I can see the point but I think human nature will always suggest that wearing a helmet is a good thing, our sister was probably saved by hers. I think the issue is getting people to not be put off riding a bike by wearing a helmet, but to embrace the vast health benefits that riding a bike can give; this could all be tied into body image etc, vanity, helmet hair. People need to see beyond that π

But you don’t think you or I should wear one in a car? Statistically, far more likely to have a head injury there. That’s my point, Mand. People are confusing the actual risk with the perceived risk. (I’m not advocating the wearing of helmets in cars, but you can see my point, eh?)
